HWEEZY Calculations

p=.35
p2=.12
q=.65
q2=.42
2pq= .455

  1. Take the given value, .42 for q2, and find the square root of it. This is q.
  2. Take your value for q,.65, and subtract it from 1. This is p.
  3. Take your value for p, .35, and square it. This is p2
  4. Plug in the p & q values into '2pq' and solve. 2(.35)(.65)= .455, this is 2pq.
  5. To find the frequency of each genotype, take the value of p2 for homo dom, q2 for homo recessive, or 2pq for hetero, and multiply each individually by 1000 (the given population number). (.12 x 1000 = 120, .42 x 1000 = 420, .455 x 1000 = 455)
